The fifth installment of the Maia employee spotlight is showcasing Atabong Fonkeng. Atabong has a Master of Architecture degree and is the BIM Manager here at Maia.
When did you join Maia?
I have been in the medical equipment planning field for 9 years now but joined Maia back in 2020.
What is your favorite aspect of Maia?
My coworkers are my favorite aspect of Maia. They are always ready to help and are a lot of fun to work with. Even though we all work remote and live across the country, we always find ways to connect with each other. Being a smaller firm also means we are readily accessible to each other when needed.
What are some of your personal hobbies?
My personal hobbies include baking, gardening, sketching, and exercising. All of these allow me to relax, but I am also a father to my amazing children. I love spending my free time with them and being an active member within my community.
What is your favorite part of medical equipment planning and do you have a favorite project you have worked on as of yet?
My favorite part of medical equipment planning is taking part in user meetings, listening to the users provide feedback on their workflow. I also enjoy seeing the collaboration that takes place with the users and other consultants. It’s also hard for me to choose a favorite project because each project is so unique and comes with its own obstacles. I treat these obstacles as a puzzle that needs solved, giving me variation day to day.
Why do you think medical equipment planning is important?
Medical equipment planning is important because we help the users and various stakeholders in the healthcare setting ensure that the best fit or right equipment is selected for their needs. Like I mentioned, each project is unique meaning the needs are unique as well. Similarities exist, but as medical equipment planners, we are here to ensure those variables are accounted for and resolved.
The past month has showcased our amazing BIM team but check back in two weeks to hear from Jimm Schroeder, Vice President. Jimm’s responsibilities also include Director of Business Development and of Service Delivery, ensuring Maia continues to stay a national presence!
