Employee Spotlight: Donna Rawana

January 17, 2023 By Cameron Graber

This installment of the Maia employee spotlight is showcasing Donna Rawana. Donna comes to Maia with a history in medical finance, previously working in the finance department for a large non-for-profit hospital in Houston. She is a CPA, CMA, having received a degree in Economics and Statistics from Western University in Canada. Donna also got her MBA in Accounting from the University of Phoenix. She joined Maia in the summer of 2022 as Controller for the administration.

When did you join Maia and what made you join?

I joined Maia in 2022 as I was seeking a new experience. I previously worked in a large organization and wanted to move toward a smaller firm. Maia provided that more agile environment I was seeking and allowing me to really make a significant impact.

What is your favorite aspect of Maia?

My favorite aspect of Maia is that I get to work remote from anywhere I choose. I no longer have to commute to work and can spend more time on what I love. Maia also really emphasizes the work/life balance, from the top down. Melody, the President/founder, truly understands the importance of having happy and healthy employees.

What are some of your personal hobbies?

A couple of my favorite hobbies include spending time with my kids and husband along with our pets, three of which are Hurricane Harvey rescues. My family and I enjoy attending the symphony and theater here in Houston. I also volunteer for the Houston Pearls, an organization providing support to teens in the foster care system transitioning to become accomplished adults. Outside of my personal hobbies, I love going on vacations with my family, especially when it involves getting to visit my extended family in Canada.

What is your favorite part of medical equipment planning and do you have a favorite project you have worked on as of yet?

I haven’t been in the medical equipment planning field for long, but I have enjoyed getting to learn about the projects we are working on as a firm. I don’t directly work on the planning side, but it is amazing to see the impact the team has on the community that the project is in.

Why do you think medical equipment planning is important?

As I continue in my job, I am learning that this is a field that demands experienced individual. They must deliver a product that meets the demands of the clients, meaning knowing what is required for the project. On top of this, every consideration should be given while thinking of the patients that will be served here. Safety, utilization, and comfortability of the patients and staff must be top of mind. As medical equipment planners, it’s our job to ensure all of those are satisfied.

As Controller, Donna has brought in a wealth of knowledge to ensure the success of Maia. She continues to bring new processes to the team, allowing the planning team to really focus on their projects. We are so grateful to have had Donna join our team and excited to see where she takes Maia!
