Employee Spotlights

Employee Spotlight: Adam Hurst

The second installment of the Maia employee spotlight is showcasing Adam Hurst. Adam went to Texas A&M and received a degree in Biomedical Engineering before joining the medical equipment planning field.

When did you join Maia and what made you join?

I have been working in the medical equipment planning field since 2004. I began as an intern my senior year of college while studying pre-medicine and biomedical engineering at Texas A&M. I fell in love with the mix of healthcare, architecture, and engineering during my internship, and the rest was history. Texas A&M is where Melody and I met, then quickly we were co-workers at a large firm after graduation. Even after we went down separate journeys, Melody and I stayed in touch. With some consistent prodding from Melody, I decided Maia was exactly where I needed to be. I was ready for a new adventure and to help Melody build something unique in the medical equipment planning industry.

What is your favorite aspect of Maia?

My favorite aspect of Maia is the small ‘boutique’ feel, full of fantastic team members. This culture allows me to make personal connections with clients, getting to know their needs and wants, which gives me the ability to anticipate clients moves. I also love knowing that everyone on the team has each other’s backs. The team is always looking out for each other and stepping up wherever needed.

What are some of your personal hobbies?

I am the parent of twin boys and enjoy every moment I can spend with them. I love attending their sporting events and getting to cheer them on from the sidelines. One of the boys is even convinced he will play for the Colorado Rockies one day! I also enjoy running and am always preparing for my next half-marathon challenge, especially because many COVID-related cancellations have left me a little rusty! I enjoy leading an active life; however, my favorite pastime is my family’s weekly game and movie nights.

What is your favorite part of medical equipment planning and do you have a favorite project you have worked on as of yet?

It’s hard for me to choose a single project or client as my favorite, but one of my most memorable experiences was early in my career. This specific project was building a replacement hospital in Oregon. It gave me my first taste of project management while also working with a stellar client. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work with clients across the country. Throughout each project, my favorite part is when the first patient crosses the threshold. I enjoy knowing that the team and I have contributed to build that environment, and in turn will make those patients’ lives better.

Why do you think medical equipment planning is important?

During my career, I have seen medical technology becoming increasingly connected and more complex. In the construction space, it is paramount for the design team to understand how the equipment will affect the entire construction process. This is the reason I think medical equipment planning is important. We provide insight to bridge the gap between vendors, healthcare providers, and contractors. When done correctly, medical equipment planning ensures a new space is functional throughout the process and installation is seamless for the clients.

The first two employee spotlights have showcased an amazing Senior Project Manager and Principal. Check back in two weeks to hear from Bethany DeLay, another Senior Project Manager!
