Employee Spotlight: Bethany DeLay

The third installment of the Maia employee spotlight is showcasing Bethany DeLay. Bethany received a Bachelor of Science in History from the University of Texas at Tyler and has risen through the medical equipment field to become a Project Manager at Maia.

When did you join Maia and what made you join?

I originally joined the medical equipment field in January of 2008, but I joined Maia in March of 2021. Maia offered me the chance to continue doing the work that I love while as providing an environment that encouraged work life balance. Working from home has enabled me to be more involved in activities with my son and my husband. I’m looking very much forward to being an active marching band mom when he starts high school next year.

What is your favorite aspect of Maia?

My favorite aspect of Maia is that even though we are a small company, there is a lot of experience between us. We all come from different backgrounds, all having different strengths. Maia encourages collaboration across the team, providing us the ability to offer expertise in different areas to fully support our clients and meet their needs.

What are some of your personal hobbies?

My hobbies include reading, doing crafty things, and baking. I have created several award-winning gingerbread showpieces over the years. But I enjoy any time in the kitchen and getting to share the results with my friends and family. I also spend most weekends with my husband and son watching college football and college baseball – Gig’em Aggies. In the off seasons, we spend our free time playing games, watching movies, and enjoying anything Disney, Harry Potter, Star Wars, or Marvel.

What is your favorite part of medical equipment planning and do you have a favorite project you have worked on as of yet?

My favorite part of being a medical equipment planner is working with the incredible people who have dedicated their lives to taking care of others. I have built lasting relationships with clients and other consultants that have turned into friendships. I also love seeing when a project reaches completion. The satisfaction of seeing everything in place and ready for the first patient is the most fulfilling moment in the project process. I get to feel like I have played a small role in the care that patients and their families will receive.

Why do you think medical equipment planning is important?

Our main responsibility in the process is to ensure that the needs of the clinical staff are met. While the overall design of a space is important, having the equipment in the most efficient and logical locations to treat patients is vital to any successful healthcare design project. We are there to provide that support, guidance, and knowledge to the entire design and clinical team.
